VERIZON AWARDS $20,000 TO NORTHWEST BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES FOR NEW DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COUNSELING PROGRAM
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.----Jacksonville’s Northwest Behavioral Health Services (NWBH) has launched a new program to prevent domestic violence and serve victims with the
help of a $20,000 grant from Verizon Wireless.
The funding is from Verizon’s
HopeLine® program, and will support NWBH’s expanded services
for domestic violence victims and families, as well as counseling for potential
NWBH professionals will provide victims and their family members intervention for their care and protection, while abusers receive counseling and therapy in an effort to
prevent the repeat of violent behavior.
The HopeLine check was presented at a ceremony at the Verizon Wireless “smart store” at the Saint Johns Town Center. Store manager Chip Howe and Jacksonville television journalist Ken Amaro presented the check to Patricia Sampson, executive director of NWBH.
“It’s great to have committed
corporate citizens such as Verizon that generously share their resources with
the community,” said Amaro, a long-time supporter of NWBH through his “Bow-Tie
Classic” golf tournament.
“Domestic violence is a painful and tragic situation for too many of our neighbors, friends and families,” Howe said. “Verizon is proud
to support the outstanding efforts of NWBH through our HopeLine program.”
Since it was founded 10 years ago, Verizon’s HopeLine program has contributed more than $20 million nationally in the effort to prevent domestic violence.
Much of the funding is generated from donations of used cellphones and accessories. Each Verizon store has a HopeLine collection box that will accept devices from any wireless carrier, making it easy for the public to join the effort against domestic violence.
